After an experience I had yesterday...
I've realized that I'm gonna need to be a more visible individual in the sphere of therianthropy if I don't want young, new therians thinking it's cool and makes them part of some in-group to cause death and destruction because they have urges, rather than thinking it's healthy and positive to find non-destructive ways to handle those urges.
I don't want to do this but I guess I'm gonna need to.
It's a shame therianthropy has been somewhat co-opted by people who want excuses to hurt animals. I'd like to make therianthropy a space that is unwelcoming to what they represent; an active and insidious source of harm.
In my opinion, any therian who actually believes the things they say about themselves can either be vegan, or look like a selfish, inconsiderate troll; so you think this one species is untouchable because you feel a connection to it, but fuck all the rest of them, they can be food?
Your theriotype is a cow, a rabbit, a chicken, or a duck? So sorry, get bent!
Your theriotype isn't worth keeping alive, and definitely isn't worthy of life like my theriotype is.
This is why so many (insert species) therian groups exist, and it is something that has made me disengage from the therian community as a whole and only seek out other foxes. At least I know they won't shit all over me because I am a fox, won't post photos of dead foxes they killed, et cetera.
It doesn't need to be that way, nor should it be that way, where therians feel divided along species lines because some with predator theriotypes think it's pleasurable and fulfilling to kill/consume animals that are the theriotypes of others, and then show that off like it's something to be proud of. Do those people not realize how close this puts them to a MAGA troll who is just looking to offend and upset people?
Species-based discrimination? Speciesism?
That's a crazy level of disrespect toward anyone who doesn't share your theriotype.
What a community, huh?
How human of them.
Good job bro, you made the person with the chicken theriotype sad by showing off something that you knew would upset them.
You're such a big, strong animal. Such instinct.
We can and should be better than this.
Sorry to break it to you, but you're living in a human body with a human brain that has human reasoning capabilities, and most unlike your theriotype, you can actively choose not to do harm to other sentient animals and that's a wonderful opportunity to create less harm in our world.
That's the reality of our situation whether or not any therians reading this choose to accept it. You're living as a human right now, full stop. You would not be reading this otherwise. Choosing to throw that cognitive ability away is pure foolishness. It doesn't make you more of an animal to disregard your current cognitive abilities, it just makes you unthoughtful, inconsiderate, offensive, impulsive, and ravenously selfish.
Consider this arugument for a moment, but as if we are talking about another human-coded activity.
How many therians eschew video games because killing in a game doesn't fulfill their "primal urges" and isn't something their theriotype would do? None.
How many refuse to drive, fly, bicycle, or use public transit because their theriotype would normally walk? None.
How many find a female and forcefully impregnate her because that's how their theriotype mates? None, I hope.
How many go completely nude in public, because their theriotype doesn't wear clothing? I suspect very few, if any.
Why, then, is it supposed to be some sort of species-affirming thing to kill and consume other animals? You all obviously don't have a problem not engaging in other behaviors that would be appropriate for your theriotype, or engaging in behaviors that are exclusively human.
From this, I call bullshit on the entire argument of "eating meat/killing animals makes me feel more like a (insert species)."
I've rarely seen such unconvincing excuses based in such wild leaps of logic and outright denial of facts, obviously contrived to maintain a status quo that is comfortable to the person making this argument, and/or to deal with cognitive dissonance on behalf of the person making this argument.
Only flat-earthers and climate-change deniers come close to this level of bad-faith argument in service of beliefs that they will never accept a challenge to, regardless of what facts are set out before them. I can't imagine being so dug in and so wrong at the same time. It must be exhausting.
This is an example of the worst human behavior of all. Doing something because that's the thing other humans do, because it's the path of least resistance, and ignoring what harm that may cause because it's something that
every
normal
human
does.
Extremely human.
Terribly destructive.
Instead...
I implore you to ask yourselves: Is that who I want to be? Do I want to be the spitting image of a horror movie villain to nonhuman animals, or do I want to be Snow White with birds singing fearlessly from perches on my fingertips?
You have the choice. Their lives are in your hands. Don't throw them away for a little pleasure; you would be upset at someone who would do that to you or your loved ones.
Try to have some empathy, for fuck's sake. You're capable of it.
Let me split no hairs:
if you call yourself a therian and you consume animal products, you're a bit of an inconsiderate jerk, particularly to other therians, but I can understand that maybe you just haven't thought about this before and give you a pass. For now.
If you're the primary source of harm caused to nonhuman animals, therian or not, you're a unredeemable asshole who deserves nothing more than to trade places with nonhuman animals during the moments of horror that you devise for them.
